National Sports Activities successfully capped Day 1 of NYC/NSA 2006
April 13, 2006
The National Sports Activities (NSA) is an offshoot of the National Youth Convention (NYC), which now is on its 9th year.
It was conceived last year to draw the line between the physical parts of the NYC with the spiritual aspect.
The first NSA, which now becomes an annual activity, kicked off on April 13 as the initial salvo of the three-day youth event, followed by the NYC proper and the KKTK mid-year Pasalamat.
The NSA is aimed to promote the physical well-being of the participants through sports and games, while the spiritual aspect is given more importance in the NYC.
Camaraderie is one of the main goals of the NSA-NYC, promoting team-building and unity among the KKTK members, officers and the organizers.
Winning the battle
It may be just openly physical but the NSA still exudes wisdom apart from strength.
The main lesson, explained our minister-in-charge Bro Danny Navales, is to realize that the competitions are likened to battles.
Any competition should be seen not to divide the youths among groups but to teach them to strive more and win the prize.
Bro Danny reminded the youths that there will be a final battle, which we must all win through.
"Hindi sapat (na batayan) ang murang gulang para maging mature tayo sa pananampalataya," he said.
There were the usual team sports like basketball and volleyball; mind games like chess, scrabble, word-factory, and game of the generals; racket games like tennis and badminton; races and individual games among others.
The power to do
Being young is always equated with strength and possibilities to do more.
Perhaps the best example we have is Bro Eli Soriano himself, who started serving God at 17. And now he is celebrating his 42 years of service.
“An enormous energy and the power to do God’s will are in each and every one of you,” he told the youths of the Church.
“Ipakita ninyong iba kayo dahil kayo’y mga Kristiano at mayroong takot sa Dios na ating pinaglilingkuran.”
